About Nanotechnology

A simple definition of nanotechnology would summarize it as study of a subject at the level of its atomic or molecular structure; there is a wide scale development of gadgets and devices or even materials in which there is the presence of a structure with one dimension size from 1 to 100 nanometers. In this scale of quantum-realm scale there is an importance of the effects of quantum mechanical.  The study of this sphere of science tries to deduce if there can be a more powerful control of matter at the level of its atomic structure; this is in addition to the efforts made on molecular self assembly. There are several branches of study in this field that includes molecular biology, organic chemistry and semiconductor physics among others.

A significant approach and progress has been made in nanotechnology within its different fields of study. It is possible to create new materials with its implementation along with devices that will have a wide range of applications to access. These devices and materials will be useful in varied fields such as medicine and biotechnology, electronics and computing as well as energy generation sources among others. Simultaneously there is a lot of speculation about the implications of nanotechnology and how far will we be able to handle that. This is a common outcome of concern and debate that accompanies every new field of study and comes under constant scrutiny of experts to analyze effects if at all any. One of the major concerns of its development is toxicity and its generation within the materials and the devices; subsequently this has also led to speculations on its effects on the environment.

There is a significant research and study on that is probing on the effects of nanotechnology on various aspects of global life – its environment and its economics. It has also led to speculation and debate on the need for legal statutes to restrict this field of study within limited means of resources and access. The effects on environment are not the only concern among researchers and scientists. There is a view shared that its development could also lead to the development of weapons for mass destruction and these would also be untraceable; thus it could endanger life and international peace and security. Governmental access would also increase among its people with the use of networked cameras – this is another cause of concern that is doing rounds among those engaged in this field of study.

There have been demands for a regulation of the researches and development of nanotechnology ideas the world over; this has followed observations of the repercussion to the maintenance of security and risks to human health that are possible consequences to be faced the world over. As a result of its incredible possibilities there are groups that are asking for a control and assessment of this branch of study with a close monitoring of its development.
